The scarce first edition of this work.

With chapters devoted to edible roots, berries, grains, flowers, leaves and nuts.

Rebacked, with endpapers renewed.

Retaining the original errata leaf to the rear, which has been crossed out in contemporary ink, and renamed 'corrigenda'.

With the bookplate of T & M James to the front pastedown.

With three former owner's inscriptions to the title page head, one undated and reading Hincker, one dated 1894, and finally the inscription of Marjorie F. James, dated 1977. 

With an informative introduction on the 'Science of Botany'.

Condition

Rebacked in calf, with tree calf boards laid down. Externally, excellent, with back strip lightly faded. Endpapers renewed. Bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Three former owner's ink inscriptions to the title page head, with ink notations to errata leaf. Pages otherwise lightly age toned due to paper type, but clean and bright, with only the odd spot.
