The letters were written during Carleton's embassy in Holland at the Hague, from January 1615 to December 1620.
Carleton's letters are extensive and rich in their description of foreign affairs of the era, offering a first-hand insight into Britain's affair in the early seventeenth century.

In a full fine morocco binding. Externally, smart. A few minor marks to the boards. Light bumping to the extremities. Bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with just a few light spots. Stamp to the reverse of the title page, and to the last leaf.
