What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding, Rebound, Very Scarce

The very scarce first edition of this work. In two volumes, with continuous pagination and register, and the second volume titled 'Appendix to the Memoirs'.

English Anglican clergyman Francis Blackburne provides the definitive memoir of his friend, published only six years after Hollis's death.

Hollis's main work was the circulation of published works relating to liberty and the republican movement, including tracts by Marchamont Nedham, Henry Neville, Philip Sidney, and John Locke.

Collated: Volume I illustrated with engraved frontispiece, engraved dedication and ten plates; volume II with an engraved frontispiece and nineteen plates.

Lacking four plates, which are supplied in facsimile; one in volume I - Milton - and three in volume II, Newton and plates of coins of Queen Elizabeth and Henry IV. Rarely seen in good order.

The text of volume II is complete, with the irregular pagination as called for.

ESTC reference number T140039.

A lovely copy of this very scarce work.
