What Our Customers Say...

Description

Leather Binding, Original Binding

ESTC Citation Number T144724.

A very well known collection. Rarely seen in this pleasing condition.

First published in three volumes in 1748, this collection sought to preserve worthy poetry which could otherwise have faded into obscurity.

Including verses by Mr. Pope, Mr. Gray, Mr. Hammond, William Shenstone, John Gilbert Cooper, Dr. Littleton and Dr. Akenside, amongst numerous others.

Robert Dodsley was an English playwright, bookseller and poet.

Complete in six volumes.

With an engraved title page and vignette headpiece to each volume; a leaf of sheet music to the rear of volume IV.

Condition

In a full calf binding. Externally generally smart; a little rubbed to the head and tails of the spines resulting in a touch of loss. Leather is slightly cracked, in particular to volumes 1 and 5. Internally, generally firmly bound, with the slightest strain to the hinges in places. Pages are bright and clean, besides occasional offsetting opposing illustrations. A large portion of the rear endpaper of volume IV has been removed.
