What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding, Very Scarce

The exceptionally scarce first edition of this work, an epic poem that tells the story of the life of Guillaume de Nassau.

A second edition was published in 1775 in Paris, under the new title 'Guillaume de Nassau, ou fondation des Provinces-Unies'.

The poem is divided into ten 'chants', which each cover different periods in the hero's life, from his youth to his eventual death.

With ten engraved head pieces, one to correspond with each chant. Collated, complete.

Bitaube's work is a celebration of French history and mythology, portraying the chivalric code and medieval life.
