What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Leather Binding

ESTC reference no T133320. Collated, complete.

Baskerville was an innovative type designer and printer. His typefaces were greatly admired by Benjamin Franklin. The Baskerville type is regarded as a transitional serif typeface intended as a refinement of the old-style typefaces of the period such as Calson.

This work contains historical writings by Sallust, an early Roman historian in the time of Julius Caesar, and Florus. Florus lived during the times of Hadrian and Trajan.

In Latin.

With the bookplate of Dr Lushington to the front pastedown. Lushington was a British judge, MP, and Judge of the High Court of Admiralty. He was one of the counsel retained by Queen Caroline and spoke in her defence during her trial before the House of Lords.

A lovely example of these classical historical writings, presented in the innovative Baskerville typeface.

Condition

In a full tree calf binding. Rebacked, with the original boards preserved. Externally, very smart. Light rubbing to the joints and extremities. Patches of rubbing to the boards. Bookplate to the front pastedown, Stephen Lushington.
