What Our Customers Say...

Description

Original Binding, Very Scarce

An impressive and very scarce handwritten account book, detailing the rents paid to the owner of the book, from Michaelmas 1773 to Michaelmas 1831.

The owner of this volume managed the rental accounts for the farms and tenants of the Beachborough Estate, in ah almet in Kent.

Beachborough Estate, also known as Beachborough Manor, passed through several generations of the Brockman family, beginning with Henry Brockman in around 1500. During World War II the estate was used by the Allies as an American hospital, and was the home of Prime Minister David Lloyd George in the early 20th century. The manor is now a B&B.

This account book offers a unique insight into life in Kent during the Georgian era, with a look into Kentish agriculture.
