While this five volume second edition was published in 1768, the title pages of volumes I and III erroneously bear the date 1758, as called for.

Translated from the original Latin into English by Archibald Maclaine.

Mosheim provides an account of ecclesiastical history from the Birth of Christ to the beginning of the eighteenth century. He explores the rise, progress and variations of church power in connection with learning, philosophy and the political history of Europe during the period.

In a full calf binding, with gilt detailing to spines. Externally, lovely. Head of front and rear joints of volume V starting, with boards holding firm. Extensive contemporary ink inscriptions to front endpapers of volumes I-IV. Stamps to front endpapers of each volume. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally clean and bright.
