A complete set in six volumes of the works of Moliere, French poet and playwright, often regarded as one of the greatest authors in the French language and world literature. His plays have been translated in numerous languages and are often performed at the Comèdie-Française. In the original French, an early eighteenth century new edition, enlarged with a biographical sketch of the author and historical and critical notes by M. de Voltaire, immensely important French Enlightenment writer.
With illustrations by J. Punt. A pocket-size set in some full calf uniform bindings. With a frontispiece and illustrated title page to volume I, as well as thirty-two full page engravings. Collated, complete.
Condition
In uniform full calf bindings. Externally with some shelf wear and minor rubbing to the spine and boards, a loss to the spine title label to all volumes except vol. III. Some cracking to the joints of vols. I, III, and Vi, the hinges slightly strained, holding firm. Previous ownership inscription to the front free endpaper, dated 1900. The title page of vol. II was professionally repaired. Internally, firmly bound. With a minor faint spotting to endpapers, otherwise the pages are generally very clean with only a touch of age toning, as usual. With a frontispiece and illustrated title page to volume I, as well as thirty-two full page engravings. Collated, complete.
