The third edition of George Colman the Elder's humorous play, first published in 1761.
First performed in 1761, and running for nineteen performances in its first season, Colman's play has been noted as indebted to Henry Fielding's 'Tom Jones' for a number of its characters and scenes.
David Garrick has been recognised as helping Colman to work on the draft of this play, and cut down its length.

Condition
Rebound in half calf, with marbled paper covered boards and endpapers renewed. Externally, a touch faded to spine, otherwise fine. Bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Light discolouration to perimeters of title page, with pages otherwise generally clean and bright, with the odd spot.
