Baskerville was an innovative type designer and printer. His typefaces were greatly admired by Benjamin Franklin. The Baskerville type is regarded as a transitional serif typeface intended as a refinement of the old-style typefaces of the period such as Calson.

With the bookplate of T Papillon to the front pastedown. With the crest featuring three butterflies. This is likely the bookplate of Thomas Leslie Papillon as his inscription is to the recto of front endpaper 'T L Papillon Merton Coll Oxford'. Other former owner's inscriptions to the recto of front endpaper, 'Joseph B Warner 1901, Rogr Sherman Warner, '98, Sturgis Warner Hu '37'.

Juvenal was a Roman pet active in the first and early second century AD. He is best known for his 'satires' which are present to this volume. Persius was also a Roman satirist. The entire corpus of Persius's work runs to 650 lines of hexameter verse.
Condition
In a full calf binding. Externally, rubbed to the spine and extremities. Loss to the tail of the spine. Front board is detached but present. Spine is lifting at the front joint. Bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright. Just the odd spots to pages.
