Illustrated, Leather Binding, With Slipcase

The second edition of this work. In a custom vellum slipcase. An incredibly information accompanying work to the Bible, containing a complete list of words found in the bible, offering reference to the passage each word is used in, and a short quote as well, showing how each word has been used. An early concordance. The concordance is intended to be used alongside the King James' Bible, which was publishes the century before this concordance was first published in 1737. This concordance has never been out of print since its publication. Illustrated with a frontispiece. Written by Alexander Cruden, who is best known for this work. It is known that he worked on this work from 7am to 1am every day, and thus completed the bulk of the work within a year. He started the work in 1735. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper, 'Rebeccah Stevens, Wycomb, 1789', and 'Mary Steevens Junior, 1809'.

Condition

In the original calf binding, in a custom vellum slipcase. Externally, generally smart. Light marking to the boards. A little rubbing to the spine. Minor loss to the head and tail of the spine. Front hinge is strained but remains firm. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper. Vellum slipcase with contemporary Latin script to the reverse. Slipcase with Latin script to the front and rear wrap, with slight ink marks to the rear wrap. Discolouration to the vellum, as is usual. Loss to the head of the front wrap and to the front joint, with a small amount of loss to the rear joint. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with scattered spots. Vellum slipcase is in a good only condition.
