Written in French and Italian. This novel follows Zilia, a young Incan princess, who is kidnapped from a Temple by the Spanish, and is rescued by French sailors. The novel sees her to France, where the author presented a satirical view of French life and society. It shows a feminist protest of French society of the era. This novel was one of the most popular of the eighteenth century, going through one-hundred and thirty editions, as well as being translated into many languages. Written by Francoise de Graffigny. Graffigny is best known for this work, after which she became the best-known living female writer of her time. Her other most famous work is the sentimental comedy 'Cenie'.
Condition
In a full mottled calf binding. Exeternally, generally smart. Light rubbing and marks to the boards and spine with a small amount of loss to the head of spine. Some surface cracks to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean, with the occasional scattered spot. Ribbon marker is detached but present.
