The first edition of this work. A scarce work. In the original French. 'De La Manoeuvre des Vaisseaux' is a French work looking at the mechanics and dynamics in relation to the ships of the Navy. The author looks at difficult naval problems, and reduces them to simple solutions of the movement of the ships. Written by Pierre Bouguer, a French mathematician, astronomer, and naval architect. He published his first treatise of naval architecture in 1746, titled 'Traite du Navire', which explained the use of the metacenter as a measure of a ships' stability. With fifteen folding plates. One page of publisher's adverts to the rear. Collated from Copac from copies held at the Science Museum, complete.

Rebound in a full calf binding. A little marking to the boards and spine. Light fading to the spine. A little rubbing to the raised bands. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with tidemarks. Prior owner's ink inscription to the half-title 'ex-libris Guichol advics...'. Worming to some pages to the rear, not affecting text. Worming to the folding plates to the rear, affecting the images only a very little. Small tape repairs to the first few and last few pages. Some loss to the page of publisher's ads and to the rear free endpaper to the fore edges.
