What Our Customers Say...

Description

Fine Binding, First Edition, Leather Binding, Scarce, Signed Binding

In the original French.

Voltaire offers a critical analysis of the political and military strategies employed by various European powers during the war. He also provides insights into the social and cultural context of the conflict, including the impact of the war on civilian populations and the role of religion in shaping political and military decisions.

This first edition was published without Voltaire's permission - the manuscript is thought to have been stolen - and does not feature his name to the title page.

With the bookplate of American banker and notable early Boy Scouts of America leader Mortimer L. Schiff to the front pastedown of volume I. He was the father of Dorothy Schiff, the owner and publisher of the New York Post from 1939 to 1976.

A lovely copy of this scarce first edition from the French Enlightenment writer and philosopher.
