Compiled by English lexicographer Nathaniel Bailey, 'Bailey's dictionary' is known as one of the first English dictionaries to focus on defining words of common usage as well as lesser known, difficult words. With the first edition published in 1721, this important reference work ran for thirty editions, with the final being published in 1802.
Bound with no half title, retaining blanks and with renewed endpapers. With one page of publisher's advertisements to the rear.
With a previous owner's ink inscription to the front blank, dated 1815.
Condition
Bound in full diced calf with renewed endpapers. Blanks retained. Externally, very good, with rubbing to the extremities and joints. The odd mark to leather. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are a little age toned, with light spotting, mainly to the first and last pages. Ink inscription to front blank.
