Epictetus was a Greek Stoic philosopher who was born into slavery. He taught that philosophy is a way of life, and not just a theoretical discipline.
George Stanhope was a clergyman of the Church of England, who held the position of Dean of Canterbury. He was also one of the commissioners responsible for building fifty new churches in London.

Condition
In a full calf binding, with renewed endpapers. Externally, sound, with rubbing to the leather. Two ring marks to the front board. Discolouration and marks to the boards and spine. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities, with a small amount of loss to the tail of the spine. Joints are starting. Front hinge is tender. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and spotted. Small wormhole to the bottom edge of the textblock, with no loss of text.
