ESTC citation number T97066. This is the variant where the title page vignette is printed the right way up; the press figure '1' on page 32 is printed beneath the 're' of the word 'Briewerre'; there is the press figure '3' on signature 4M1; 'A Compleat Index to Mr. Madox's History' is not present.
'Baronia Anglica' is the author's posthumous work, a history and record of the feudal barons.
This was an important work, being a lasting resources for medieval scholarship for the next three centuries. The reason this was such a long-lasting work is because of Madox's use of original government records, the use of primary sources resulting in an accurate and historical work.
Written by Thomas Madox, who was the King's Historiographer. Madox was a legal antiquary, well known for his thorough medieval works.
Condition
Rebound in marbled paper covered boards. Externally, smart. A touch of bumping to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean, with a tidemark to the head and fore edge of the textblock. A couple of faint handling marks to the pages.
