The first English edition of this volume, the London issue published in the same year as the Irish edition, in 1738. The first English edition of Guillame Plantavit de la Pause's Memoirs du Maréchal de Berwick. ESTC Reference T96945 

Illustrating the life of James Fitz-James, 1st Duke for Berwick. He was and Anglo-French military leader, and the illegitimate son of King James II of England and Arabella Churchill, John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough's sister.

He was a noted general for the reign of Louis XIV of France. 

ESTC includes a plate, which this volume is lacking. 


Condition

In a full calf binding. Externally very smart with some shelf wear and a slight rubbing and scuffing to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Five raised bands. Internally, firmly bound. With an ink mark by a previous owner to the title page. With some With some minor offsetting to the first and last few leaves, as well as the minor odd spot occasionally, otherwise the pages are generally bright and clean. Lacking a plate mentioned in the ESTC Reference.
