'Generation Harmonique' is a continuation of Jean-Philippe Rameau's earlier work, 'Traite de l'Harmonie', carrying on Rameau's important contributions to contemporary music theory. Rameau's works help to initiate a revolution in musical theory.
Most notable in this volume is Rameau's discussions on the derivation of the major and minor harmony from overtone and undertone series, and the octave identify and division into twelve equal tones.
Rameau was one of the most important French composers and theorists of the eighteenth century, suddenly coming into prominence with his 1722 publication of 'Traite de l'Harmonie'.
