Colley Cibber was an actor-manager and playwright who wrote twenty-five plays for his own company at Drury Lane.
His best known play is 'Love's Last Shift', which started a public shift in taste away from Restoration intellectualism and sexual frankness towards conservative and sentimental comedy.

In a half morocco binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, smart. Bookplate to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age-toned with the occasional spot. Ink mark to the top and fore edge. Each play is bound without the frontispiece, 'The Comical Lovers' is bound without pages 63 to 82. 'Love's Last Shift' is bound without leaf A3.
