A fascinating memoir account of exciting life of John Macky, a Scottish spy.
The memoir contains Macky's account of his life, alongside a collection of brief biographical studies on the people of the Court of Britain.
Macky was the first person who informed the authorities in Britain of the intended invasion of James II of England in 1692. Subsequently he was appointed the inspector of the coast from Harwich to Dover, intended to intercept any hostile intelligence.
He had an extensive network of spies. In 1708 they were crucial to the discovery of another Jacobite invasion.
This is an exciting memoir of the political turmoil of the Stuart era and the beginning of the Georgian era.
