1733 Le Temple du Gout
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Early Edition, Very Scarce
Published the same year as the first, which was issued in Rouen by Jore in 1733. Voltaire's bibliographer Bengesco refers to the further 1733 printings as 'premieres editions'. This edition is noted as a later in 1733 due to the title page bearing Voltaire's name, with Crebillon's approbation dated 1733 to the final leaf. [Bengesco, n.602, p.162.] In the original French. With a bright red and black title page, featuring a detailed engraving. This edition was published by Jaques Desbordes of Amsterdam. 'Le Temple du Gout' was published without official permission from the censors and is a scathing, satirical attack on contemporary taste in art and literature. Voltaire was the nom de plume of Francois-Marie Arouet. He was a French Enlightenment writer, historian and philosopher. He was famous for his wit and staunch criticism of Christianity.
