First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding

First edition thus, the first collected edition of Bacon's English and Latin works. [Gibson 248] With an engraved half-title, and frontispiece to all volumes. In the original Latin and English. Introduction in English, with the text in the original Latin. Including Dr Rawley's life of Bacon, Instauratio Magna Pars I and Pars II, With the collation: [3], A-3K2,L1, A-5Q2; Prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedown, John Guitton.

Condition

In full calf diced calf bindings. Externally, generally smart. Loss to the head and tail of spines which are rubbed. Engraved frontispiece to volume I is trimmed at the bottom. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound. Pages are very bright and crisp.
