1721 Mechanical Essays on the Animal Oeconomy
What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Leather Binding, Uncommon
This is one of two works written by James Handley. The other was his 1705 treatise 'The Art of Surgery' which was initially published anonymously and became a staple of eighteenth century medical texts.
This work provides Handley's theories on human biology. There are chapters on the mechanism of blood, on the forming of an animal from an egg, of the structure of the stomach and many other parts of the body. To this work Handley disputes the ovarian doctrine of Harvey and the animacular hypothesis of Leeuwenhoek. Handley produces his own theories on reproduction. He also writes on many medications, explaining their ingredients and uses.
A comprehensive work, in a well-preserved condition.
