Description
First Edition, Folding Maps, Folding Plates, Illustrated, Leather Binding, Rebound
From antiquarian, merchant, and nonconformist Ralph Thoresby, this is the first edition of what is considered to be the first historical work on Leeds. Reprinted in 1816 in two volumes and with revisions, this single volume first edition is a scarcer work.
With folding plates, folding maps, and illustrations of the Roman antiquities present at Thoresby's own museum in Leeds. A catalogue of this museum is present in the work, featuring the study of 'Roman, British, Saxon, Danish, Norman and Scotch coins'.
An amateur rebinding of this work has resulted in the absence of the frontispiece portrait of Thoresby, and final page of the index.
ESTC reference no. T142791
