What Our Customers Say...
Description
Illustrated, Leather Binding
In French. This work is about the Council of Constance, a fifteenth century ecumenical council recognised by the Catholic Church, held from 1414 to 1418. The council ended the Western Schism, a long lasting split within the Catholic Church, by despoing or accepting the resignation of papal claimants and electing Pope Martin V. The council also condemned the theologian and philosopher Jan Hus as a heretic, and ordered his execution in 1415 due to his ideas of church reform. Written by Jacques Lenfant. Lenfant was a French Protestant chaplain and author of many works on church history. His works include 'Histoire du Concile de Pise', and 'Histoire de la guerre des Hussites et du Concile de Basle'. With a frontispiece, and eighteen plates. Bookplate to the front pastedown, 'Joseph M. Gleason'. Gleason was a Californian Catholic priest, historian, and collector of books. Collated, complete.
