Description

First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce

The first edition.

An exceptionally scarce pamphlet containing a sermon given to the Lords of Parliament by John Sharp, Archbishop of York. This sermon took place on the 30th January, 1699 at the Abbey Church in Westminster.

The subject matter of this important sermon was surrounding one key phase from the Bible "Put them in mind to be subject to Principalities and Powers, to obey Magistrates", Titus 3: 1-2. The archbishop explores the meaning of this phrase, guiding the relationship between the Anglican Church and the government.

Condition

Disbound, as issued. Externally, very good, with light wear to the spine and one small puncture hole to the head of the spine. Small tear to the tail of the front joint, with the title page a little strained. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright with a little age toning to the extremities and the odd handling mark.
