The collected works of the Hellenized Syrian Lucian, translated here into English from the original Ancient Greek.
Lucian was a satirised, rhetorician, and pamphleteer. His style was tongue-in-cheek, ridiculing religion, superstition, and belief in the paranormal.
His most famous work, 'A True Story' or 'True History', is included in Volume III. This novella is considered to be first text that could be called science fiction, featuring travel to outer space, aliens, and interplanetary warfare.

Condition
In a full panelled calf binding, smartly rebacked. Externally, smart. Very light rubbing to the boards. Minor bumping to the extremities, resulting in a small amount of loss of leather. Light discolouration to the extremities of the boards. A small amount of leather to the head and tail of the paste downs, due to the rebacking. Bookplate to the front paste downs. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are a little age-toned with some spotting.
