Attributed to Abel Boyer, a Huguenot who settled in London. The title comes from the Greek philosopher Theophrastus, although Boyer's style differs from his. Boyer offers maxims, reflections and manners after the French pattern.
Condition
In a contemporary calf binding. Externally, generally smart with patches of rubbing to the joints and extremities. Former owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper, Wm Beeston Queen's Coll Oxford 1741. Former owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with occasional light spots to pages.
