What Our Customers Say...

Description

Illustrated, Leather Binding, Rebound

The uncommon second edition of this impressive and richly illustrated genealogical account of the British monarchy. The work of Anglo-Irish herald and genealogist Francis Stanford, who first published this work in 1677.

This is the second, edition, updated and continued to the year 1707 by Somersetshire herald Samuel Stebbing, and is therefore also a first edition thus, featuring many new illustrations also.

Illustrated with seventy-six full page engravings, six folding plates, and one folding genealogical table. These illustrations are the work of Robert Gaywood, Francis Barlow, and Wenceslaus Hollar. Collated, complete.

These engravings depict seals and funerary monuments, and the elaborate headpieces incorporate medallion portraits. Wenceslaus Hollar was a famed Bohemian graphic artist of the seventeenth century, and one of the most prolific artists of his time.

With the inscription of M Ayerson Longstaff to the head of the title page.

Tipped in between pages 604 and 605 is a former owner's three leaf handwritten copy of the transcript of 'State Papers. Vol XXXIV, Council of State. Day's Proceedings' of March 19th 1865.
