Rochefoucauld was the most accomplished French moralist of his era, and is best remembered today for this work. His maxims reflect on the callous nature of humanity, a total of eight-hundred and seventy-two maxims included in this volume.
Condition
In a full rebacked calf binding with the original boards restored. Externally, generally smart. Light rubbing to the boards. Evidence of a label being formerly adhered to the head of the front board. Minor bumping to the extremities. A few minor marks and light rubbing to the spine. A small patch of leather to the head of the rear board is lifting. Hinges are starting but firm. Bookplate to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very lightly age-toned and generally clean with some occasional spots and handling marks.
