Rebacked, with the original boards preserved. Simon Patrick wrote many devotional writings, and his 'Commentary on the Historical and Poetical Book of the Old Testament' was an important work and reprinted into the nineteenth century. He was influenced by prominent Arminian theologians such as Henry Hammond and the Cambridge Platonists. Collated, complete, with the half title. From the notable theological library 'Bishop Phillpotts' Library', Truro. With two bookplates to the front pastedown. Henry Phillpotts was the Anglican Bishop of Exeter for over thirty years. He was one of England's longest serving bishops since the 14th century. The Library was founded by the bishop for the benefit of the clergy ofg Cornwall. Today it remains an important location for theological and religious studies. Prior owner's pencil notations to the recto of front endpaper. ESTC reference number R2078.

In a contemporary calf binding. Rebacked, with the original boards preserved. Externally, very smart with patches of light rubbing and marks to boards. Bookplates to the front pastedown. Prior owner's inscription in pencil to the recto of front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright. Occasional pencil marginalia pointers from a previous owner. The odd spot to pages.
