A scarce religious work by the Puritan Thomas Watson, containing over one-hundred and seventy-six sermons by him and published after his death.

Watson was a prominent figure during the interregnum, though he had a fondness for the King which led to him being briefly imprisoned for being involved in Christopher Love's plot to bring Charles II back to England. He has great popularity and fame as a preacher until the Restoration, when he was ejected from his vicarship due to nonconformity.

Collated, bound without pages 301 to 330.

Condition

Rebound in a full cloth binding. Externally, smart, with some rubbing and marks to the boards and spine. Light bumping to the spine and extremities. Internally, binding is strained in places. Pages are age-toned with some handling marks and sports, and a few very small tide marks. Prior owner's ink to the recto and verso of the title page. Frontispiece has been pasted on to the front free endpaper, with evidence of former damage with tears and wear, not repaired. Light tide mark to the first few pages, heavier the dedication leaf and leaf a1. A couple of small tape repairs to the gutter between the frontispiece and title page. Small chip to the gutter of the frontispiece. Dedication leaf is a little closely cropped to the gutter. Small scorch mark to leaf Nn1. Leaves C2 to E4 are detached but present, and leaves Aaa2 and Aaa3 are detached but present. Gatherings R, S, and Aa-Bb, are detaching. Lacking pages 301-330. Advertising leaf is repaired.
