What Our Customers Say...
Description
Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce
This edict was presented to the court of aids on the 19 November 1685. In the original French. Being two leaves, and therefore four pages. A very scarce work, with no copies cited on the Library Hub. This edict deals with the punishment of individuals on the galleys or galeres. There is mention of the ineffectiveness of whips, due to the fact that this simply injures criminals. The tract states that medical professionals are then kind to the offenders, which brings a rise in recidivism. An interesting insight into the French penal system in the late seventeenth century.
