The scarce first edition of this posthumously published collection of many of the works of the English bishop, satirist and moralist, Joseph Hall.
Illustrated with a folding engraved portrait frontispiece.
Published for years after Hall's death, among the works of the celebrated theologian present here are critical 'The Womens[sic] Vail: or a Discourse Concerning the Necessity, or Expedience of the Close-Covering of the Heads of Women ... Occasioned by an offence unjustly taken at a Modest Dresse', and the autobiographical 'Observations Of some Specialties of Divine Providence in the Life of Jos. Hall, Bishop of Norwich'.

Rebound in full calf, with endpapers renewed. Light fading to back strip, with minor rubbing to rear joint. Bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages significantly age toned due to paper type, with spotting and handling marks throughout. The odd ink annotation to margins.
