What Our Customers Say...

Description

Crompton was a member of the Middle Temple and was known for editing and enlarging Sir A Fitzherbert's 'Office et Aucthoritie de Justices de Peace'. Other works by Crompton include 'A Short Declaration of the End of Traytors and False Conspirators against the State, and the Duetie of Subjects to their Souereigne Gouvernor'.

The ESTC notes that this work is selections from 'L'authoritie et iurisdiction des courts de la Maiestie de la Roygne'. This was Crompton's chief work. A different selection of star-chamber cases from this work were published in 1630.

This re-publication of the star-chamber cases was issued at the start of the English Civil War and following the abolition of the Star Chamber by Prynne, Leighton, Bastwick and Burton with the 'Habeas Corpus Act' of 1640.
