Description

The Sacra Biblia Vulgatae was first translated by Jerome of Stridon from the Greek or Hebrew into the common language, Latin, in 405. In 1546, it was recognised as authoritative by the Council of Trent and became the official Bible of the Catholic Church. The Vulgata is still currently used in the Latin Church.
This is a new revised edition set in two pocket sized volumes, comprising the Book of Genesis and Liber Exodus, and the New Testament.
With an illustrated title page.
Condition
In a full calf binding with four raised bands and titles in gilt to the spine. Externally sound with some shelf wear, rubbing and minor scuffing to the boards and spine, as well as some minor cracking to the joints, particularly to the rear joint of volume II. With a very minimal loss to the head of the spine of both volumes. The edges of vol. II are slightly chipped. Internally, firmly bund. The pages are clean throughout with only a minor inscription and mark to the first leaf of text of vol. II, with a touch of age toning, as usual. Illustrated with an illuminated vignette title page.
