What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Leather Binding
An important collection of Elizabethan poetry, which contains the only contemporary reference to Shakespeare as a poet aside from Ben Jonson's references. Drayton and Shakespeare were known to be friends, although in this work he refers to Shakespeare as such to page 206 'Shakespeare thous hadst as smooth a Comicke vaine,/Fitting the socke, and in thy naturall braine,/As strong conception, and as Cleere a rage,/As any one that trafiqu'd with stage'. This work also contains one of the first examples of fairy literature, to 'Nimphidia'.
Former owner's ink inscription to the dedication leaf, W Dalton Scoones. This copy has been cropped, with C2 folding to the foot of the leaf. Bound without endpapers, the final blank and engraved frontispiece. This work is typically without the engraved frontispiece.
The preliminary leaves are misbound. With the collation: [1], a4, [1], b6, c-z4, 2A4-2D4, 2E3.
