Description
First Edition
In the original Spanish.
'Guzman de Alfarache' was published in two parts, the first part in Madrid in 1599 and the second in Lisbon in 1604. This is the first edition published with both parts as one.
This novel follows the adventures of a young rogue and is told from an autobiographical standpoint. The adult narrator looks back on his youthful years and picaresque adventures and moralizes on the childish excesses. Parallels have been drawn to other contemporary picaresque novels such as 'Lazarillo de Thomas'.
