John Wainwright (1921-1995) was  British Crime novelist who write eighty-three books, four of which were published under the pen name Jack Ripley.

Death in a Sleeping City is the author's first book.

Chief Superintendant Lewis's patch in a Northern provincial city is invaded by two mafia gunmen, who commit a savage murder. Lewis is determined not to hand the murder over to Scotland Yard, but can he solve the mysetery before any one else gets killed


The binding is tight and firm with the pages and boards securely attached. There is very little wear to the extremities. Internally the pages are clean and bright. There is some minor wear to the dustwrapper, including a closed tear. It has been price-clipped. Overall the condition of this volume is fine in a very good dustwrapper.
