What Our Customers Say...

Description

Illustrated, Leather Binding

Six volumes of the hard to find Leisure Hour. Scarce. The Leisure Hour contains many different items, from biographies to reference information and short stories. The journal is nicely illustrated with with scenes from the stories. Many of the editions are headed with a quote by William Cowper; 'Behold in these what leisure hours demand, - Amusement and true knowledge hand in hand', which gives an impression as to the aim of the publication. Each edition was originally priced at one penny and published weekly.

Condition

In full calf binding. Externally, smart. There is some mild wear to the extremities including some mild bumping, fading and discolouration. There is a 3" area to the rear board of the 1862 volume where the cloth has lifted slightly. The front inner hinge of the 1962 volume has failed. A couple of the other inner hinges are slightly strained. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean with some mild intermittent spotting and slight browning to some of the volumes.
